The Studios
This prestigious school,
conveniently and pleasantly situated in several venues in Clifton and Kingswood in Bristol and also in Odd Down, Bath - was started by Deborah Sims in September 1980 with and initial intake of two six
year old pupils.
Since then it has gone from
strength to strength with nearly two hundred pupils enrolled and a reputation extending
far beyond the boundaries of Bristol.
In September 1988 the
Milton Taylor School of Ballet, Kingswood, became part of the Classical Dance Studios and
in 1993 the Seasons Dance Studios in Bath was also incorporated. In 2002, two new branches were added, in Chipping Sodbury, and at Weston in Bath.
In many ways, the Classical
Dance Studios offers a unique curriculum. It caters for both sexes and all ages - with
juniors (3-12 years), seniors (12 and upwards) and adults.
Seniors are divided into groups, vocational and non-vocational.
The vocational students are asked to audition before selection.
Classes, which are generally restricted to a maximum
of twelve, are held for the specially gifted who may be on the threshold of illustrious
careers. There are also classes for
adults Ballet for Fun.
The Classical Dance Studios aims to give pupils and
insight into the artistic, enjoyable uninhibited side of ballet training rather than
concentrating on the purely academic aspects. However,
provision for exams is made and results to date have been excellent with former pupils
making their presence felt at
The Hammond School in Chester,
The London Studio Centre,
The London School of Contemporary Dance,
The Italia Conti School,
The Doreen Bird College
The Laban Centre
The Royal Academy of Dancing.
